Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3, Exchange Server 2010 sp2 RU6, and Exchange Server 2007 sp3 RU10 Released

Microsoft releases patches and upgrades to Exchange Server 2007 and 2010

Yesterday Microsoft release the long-awaited service pack 3 for Exchange Server 2010. Service pack 3 is a requirement for interoperability and migrations to Exchange Server 2013 – a roadblock that has now been removed. In addition to Exchange 2013 co-existence service pack 3 introduces support for Windows Server 2012, Internet Explorer 10, and as always, includes current and previous bug fixes.

In addition to service pack 3, Microsoft release RU 6 for Exchange Server 2010 sp2 and RU 10 for Exchange Server 2007 sp3. Interestingly RU 10 for Exchange Server 2007 introduces co-existence with Exchange Server 2013 as well removing the migration roadblock for 2007. RU6 for Exchange Server 2010 sp2 simply introduced bug fixes with no significant new features (that is what sp3 s for).

Below are the links and version numbers of the three patches. CU1 for Exchange Server 2013 is coming soon as well (and listed as a recommendation prior to co-existence but not required).

Friday Microsoft released CU December 2012 for OCS 2007 R2. The list of the various updates may be found below. The updates are general fixes/stability for the product and recommended for all environments.

This week Microsoft released CU September 2012 for OCS 2007 R2 Group Chat. The list of the various updates may be found below. This release contains the same fixes as OCS 2007 R2 July 2012 but with an extended certificate expiration.

June 2011 Office Communicator 2008 R2 (CU9) Updates

Microsoft has released the CU9 updates for OCS 2007 R2 and the links for the updates are listed below.

After upgrading OCS the build numbers will be 6907.233.

OCS and SIP Trunks

AOL PIC Users Fail / Presence Unknown

As all are aware Office Communication Server 2007 R2 was recently released and with it the ability to run the various code on Windows Server 2008 64bit. Everything appears to run/work correctly with the exception of AOL users via the PIC.

Symptoms:

• AOL Users' Presence is Inaccurate; it may show on-line, unavailable, or presence unknown
• A message invite may be received from an AOL user but no information is ever received
• Attempting to respond to an AOL user or start a conversation with an AOL user will fail

The fix was discovered by Microsoft Senior Escalation Engineer Scott Oseychik among others and is documented at:

The fix: in short you must modify the local security policy on the 2008 Edge server rearranging the TLS authentication methods. It is important to note that this fix and the issue do not apply if you have the OCS 2007 R2 bits installed on a Windows Server 2003 64-bit.

Yahoo! Service Outage for PIC Users

Yahoo! will be undergoing an emergency maintenance from 4:30pm to 4:30am PST. During this period, users will see intermittent presence issues. All other functionality will not be impacted.

More Information:

After the maintenance window expires, if you find you are still having issues, please first log out & then back into your Communicator client. If the issue still reproduces/occurs for you, please restart Edge Front-End services first. Allow me to apologize for this up front; I understand this will require an “emergency service restart change request” for some of you. If all this fails to resolve the PIC issue between your LCS/OCS deployment and Yahoo!, please engage Microsoft Customer Support Services. Premier customers: please leverage your Technical Account Manager to initiate the case creation process. Please be prepared to supply Edge Server logs, remote access via our EasyAssist applications from MSFT, and we will do our best to investigate and resolve this in a timely manner.
